Overview
This document details the complete installation of Windows XP Professional using an upgrade CD showing all the screenshots. Windows XP Home users will not encounter all these screens but can follow the same procedure. Can I install Windows XP Full version using an Windows XP Upgrade CD on an empty hard drive? Yes you can, if you own one of these Full version CD's: WinXP Home, Win2000, WinME, Win98, WinNT4.0. My old Win98SE CD sure comes in handy when installing XP Pro to verify my Upgrade is valid. You don't need a running operating system to use the XP Upgrade CD, just need to prove you own a Full version CD to pass the verification check. Dissatisfaction with Vista on preinstalled new computer systems has led to owners down grading their new Vista machines to XP Pro.
